SASCA - Orinoco
Delta / Canaima (2days/1 night) |
|
The Checking at SASCA counter at
the International Airport of the Caribbean Santiago
Mariño. Snack and refreshments are offered on board.
During the flight of approximately 1 hour we will fly
over the Gulf of Paria , and the state Mongas. Arrive
at Tucupita Airport the Capital of Delta Amacuro
located on the Manamo river one of the arms of the
Orinoco.
Once in the air, a breakfast snack and Refreshments
will be served, followed by the chance to relax and
joy the scenery below.
Transfer by fast boats to the Orinoco Delta Lodge
approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes. The lodge is
comfortable and blends with the surroundings. Check-In
your cabin and enjoy the area around the camp with a
dug-out canoe.
After lunch we start our excursion by motor boat to
explore remote areas. Here we will visit the Warao
Indians and learn how they live in this isolated land
of swamps and jungles. We will take an unforgettable
jungle walk with expert guides to discover the beauty
of this wonderful place. The area is rich of fauna and
flora. Tall giant trees and palm galleries shaped
through hundreds of years. An infinite network of
small and big rivers flowing slowly covered with the
water hyacinth plants. This is home for many birds
including macaws, parrots, toucans, kingfishers,
herons, hawks, egrets and storks. The fauna includes
howler monkeys, capuchin monkeys, giant river otters,
freshwater dolphins, agoutis, many species of snakes
including the mighty anaconda and boa constrictors.
And if you like to fish, you will have a shot at the
fierce Piranha which are abundant. Before returning to
the lodge, we will witness a spectacular Delta sunset
with cocktails on the boat. Dinner is served at 7.30
p.m. and drinks are available at our bar.
Next morning we will leave the camp after breakfast
arriving in Tucupita Airport at 9.00am and board the
plane to Canaima.

SASCA - Canaima National Park (Full Day Tour) |
|
After every body is on board , we
will take-off and head south-east. Once we are in the
air, a breakfast snack and Refreshments will be
served, followed by the chance to relax and enjoy the
scenery below.
On the way the aircraft overfly the Island of Coche,
the Araya Peninsula, the Cariaco Gulf and States of
Monagas and Anzoategui until the crossing of the
Orinoco River, just east of Ciudad Bolivar. At this
point the Orinoco, the sixth longets in the world, has
covered close to 2.000 km, with just a remaining 300
km, to get to the Atlantic. A few minutes later the
aircraft will pass over Guri Dam and Guri Lake, one of
the largest man made lakes in the world. Not long
after, weather permitting, the aircraft will enter
Devil´s Canyon and fly past Angel Falls, the highest
perennial waterfall in the world, wich descends close
to 1,000 mts into the jungle below. This waterfall was
made famous by Jimmy Angel bush pilot, who crash
landed his plane on the top. Once everybody has seen
the fall, the aircraft will then head to Canaima.
Upon landing at Canaima, the group will be taken to
Canaima Lagoon and then to Sapo Falls or Yuri Falls or
Mayupa, depending on the time of the year and the
levels of the waters, however on either excursion
there will be the opportunity to swim and enjoy this
most unique area. As a matter of interest,all the
water you see coming down any of the falls, will
eventually go into the Carrao river which in turn will
join the Caroni river which in tourn then reaches Guri
Lake, which you saw on the way down. After lunch, the
chance to have a drink on the terrace overlooking
Canaima Lagoon and also to buy some local indian arts
and crafts.
At the indicate time you will be taken to the
airstrip, asked to board the aircraft and begin the
return flight to Porlamar.

Pemón Indian Community, for a refreshment and then one
of them through a bit of jungle forest to the Kavak
river. To get to the Kavak Canyon, the group will have
to walk along the same river, sometimes on wet
stones,sometimes crossing it, so please bring rubber
soled shoes and clothes that can get wet. Once in the
canyon there will be plenty of time to swim, to relax
ant to enjoy the breathtalking sight. On the way back
there is a stop at another beautiful waterfall. Luch
will be served in the village, so there will be also
time for a stroll around to see how this Pemón
Community goes about its daily business.
At the indicated time you will be taken to the
airstrip, asked to board the aircraft and begin the
return flight to Porlamar.

TUY - Angel Falls (Full Day
Tour) |
|
On your flight to Canaima you will
fly by Angel Falls, the highest waterfall in the world
(3300 ft). After flying by the falls you will land at
Canaima where you will find the famous waterfalls of
the Canaima lagoon.
From here you will cross the lagoon on a "curiara"
(Indian dugout canoe) which will take you to a hiking
trail where you will begin an easy hike to a waterfall
called El Sapo, here you will find yourself following
the trail that takes you directly behind the curtain
of water of this incredible waterfall (be ready to get
wet!!). After the excursion you will be offered a
typical barbecue lunch (with a view of the Canaima
lagoon).

TUY - AREKUNA (Two days & one night)
|
|
Overnight: Arekuna is a lovely camp located on the
Caroní river, on the edge of the Canaima National
Park. We offer bungalows, each with two rooms, each
room with its own private bath. On your flight to
Arekuna you will fly by Angel Falls. While at Arekuna
you have several choices of excursions.
Trip to Las Babas Rapids (easy); these nearby rapids
are an impressive example of the strength of the
rivers in this part of the world. When the river level
is low enough (usually December through May ) you will
be able to see the Indian petroglyphs which were
carved by the Caribe Indians many centuries ago.
Excursion to the Nonoy Tepuy (moderate); after a 20
minute boat ride, you will take a 40 minute hike to
this Tepuy. Along the way you will be able to enjoy
the typical scenery of the "Gran Sabana". Excursion to
Canaima (optional) (easy); this is full day side trip.
You will take a boat ride up the Caroní river, then on
smaller dugout canoes you will connect with smaller
rivers that will take you closer to Canaima. There you
will travel over land to experience Canaima (see
Canaima). A three day / two night trip by dugout canoe
to the Angel Falls is available.

TUY - KAVAC (Full Day Tour) |
|
Kavac is located on the south side of
the Auyantepuy, a 45 mile diameter tabletop mountain (Tepuy)
that holds the world's
tallest waterfall, Angel Falls (3300 ft.). On your
flight to Kavac you will fly by Angel Falls and you
will then land at the Indian village of Kavac. Here
you will be able to hike (moderate) into the Kavac
gorge to discover rivers and waterfalls of incredible
beauty. A barbecue lunch is offered. Aside from your
guide, all the personnel of this camp are local
Indians who live in this lovely valley.
Overnight: For those passengers staying for one or two
evenings, your dwelling will be a typical "Churuata"
with private double rooms, each with its own bathroom.
Several hikes to the Auyantepuy are available. You can
also visit the Indian village of Kamarata
(approximately a one hour hike over flat terrain).
There is no electricity in this camp. Lighting is by
Coleman gas lights.
Additional Excursions: You can hike in the Kamarata
valley for two days-one night or for as long as an
entire week. Also a four day/three night trip by
dugout canoe to Angel Falls is available.

TUY - UCAIMA (Two days & one

This is the oldest of the camps in
the area. Founded in the 1950's by Rudy Truffino
"Jungle Rudy" it is now operated by his daughters.
This camp with
double rooms and private baths is located above
Canaima Falls. Excursions to the Carrao river and to
Angel Falls are available.
